| About Me | Mark, Josh, Jess, Jill and (Jo)Hanna are the stars at the center of my universe. If today were my last, there are no regrets! My loves, friends & acquaintences have undoubtedly touched my life in some special way and it is no doubt better for it! No longer able to work due to progression of MS, I use Facebook (thanks to Kelli) to help my fine motor skills and dexterity. I obviously need to learn to type much better as I keep finding typos! Four children: Joshua, born in April '84, was retired from the USMC after returning safely from two tours to the big sandbox (including the initial action) then re-upping. He was teaching @ Quantico when a blast accident burned his right side & took his right dominant hand - January 31, 2007 (aaprox 1:30PM). New equipment was found to be @ fault. He was one of two prime candidates in a clinical trial for the 6th hand transplant in this country! It is miraculous! The Univ of Pgh Med Ctr (UPMC) has terrific facilities & programs so bringing him home from WRMC was a no brainer and now our faith has been rewarded! He was notified barely two weeks ago that he is now OFFICIALLY on the transplant list - awaiting a donor. I am humbled and awestruck by the medical advances. His marrow and blood plasma have been frozen to mix with the donor's to help minimize rejection. Isn't that incredible?!!! The call came in March 13, 2009 - 13 hour transplant took place evening of March 14, 2009. He's returned to school and is happy to be getting his life back on track, but forever grateful to a young man we never knew. March 14, 2013 - four years to the day, hand was removed. Josh is truly a hard-headed son of a Bitch and will move on with his life! Jessica, born October 1988, graduated in May '11 from George Washington University (Major-Public Admin Human Services/minor-Soc) in DC and enjoying her unique vantage on this exciting time in history! Currently employed FT at a non-profit and living in MD now. It's not unreasonably far away but - it is~! And, although the phone calls are frequent, it's not the same. One of the most difficult parental lessons I've had to learn is helping them grow wings is much easier than actually letting them use them. Mark & I "finally" married in October 1991 - with Josh helping with the proposal! Josh was then the ring bearer and Jess our flower girl! Jillian was born in July 1993 and Johanna (Hanna) in June 1994. They are our Irish twins as they are just over 11 months apart. Jillian graduated from the Cosmotology program at Steel Center and passed the theory and practical tests for her state boards and is now a licensed cosmotologist etc. We love this talent! Jillian has given us the greatest gift we coulod never imagine - Rylan Joseph (Sept. 4, 2011). Grantparenthood/dom is a very special kind of love. Jill can't possibly know how lucky she is but the boy is the most pleasant child & easy to read his signs. Jill working full time and going to school full time on weekends so we gratefully get to spend a lot of time with him! Hanna cheered for BPSD since 8th grade but due to too many concussions, no longer continued doing so in her Sr. yr. and had to give up her gymnastics and dance. It was like caging the wind to keep her still which was a challenge. Hanna attends CCA pursuing a medical background. My dad died on my Jess' Bday in 2006 so we moved Mom (79 @ Time closer to me.) Mom passed away on my Jillian's birthday 2013. she was 87. I truly experiencd the sandwhich generation! Additionally, my father-in-law is also getting up in years (83) and facing health challenges With Parkinsons. My MIL (79) passed away in November 2010 from complications related to lung cancer. I have a good life - just different than what I've been used to. However, since I never claimed to be able to pre...(read more) |
