Chris Broderick

Former lead guitarist for Megadeth, 2008 – 2014

What is Chris Broderick known for?

Christopher Alan Broderick, best known as Chris Broderick, is a distinguished musician and guitarist. Born on March 6, 1970, in Lakewood, Colorado, U.S., he commanded the stage as the lead guitarist of the renowned heavy metal band, Megadeth, from 2008 to 2014. His talent also resonated in the sound of Jag Panzer as the lead guitarist and keyboardist, where he contributed to four albums, namely 'The Age of Mastery,' 'Thane to the Throne,' 'Mechanized Warfare,' and 'Casting the Stones.' Notably, 'Thane to the Throne' was a concept album about Shakespeare's 'Macbeth.' Furthermore, he served as a touring guitarist for Nevermore between 2001 and 2003 and again between 2006 and 2007.

Broderick's love for music was palpable from an early age, picking up his first guitar at just 11 years old. His musical compass doesn't just point to metal; his expertise also extends to classical, neoclassical, and jazz genres. His dedication was remarkable, practicing up to 14 hours a day during his summers as a teen. He excelled at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, where he earned a degree in classical guitar music performance. Known for his distinct and technical guitar work, he also dabbled in flamenco guitar, citing Paco de Lucia as his favorite guitarist.

Prior to joining Megadeth, Broderick became a part of Jag Panzer in 1997 when guitarist Joey Tafolla left. His technical prowess breathed new life into the heavy metal band, where he remained for almost a decade. He played on four of the band's albums, helping them preserve their unique, complex sound.

In between his terms with Jag Panzer, Broderick was also part of the live shows of the heavy metal band Nevermore. His tenure with Nevermore ran intermittently from 2001 to 2003 and then again in 2006 and 2007.

Broderick joined Megadeth in 2008, replacing Glen Drover. His addition to the lineup came after rumors circulated about Drover's departure from the band. Broderick's exceptional skill playing both classical and electric guitar won over Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, leading to his inclusion in the band until 2014.
