About Me | Hello to All: I am very happy to announce the publication of my two most recent books, "Chasing the Golden Hoard: The Story of the Lydian Hoard, A Tale of Theft, Repatriation, Greed & Deceit (2012) plus my latest, "Re-Creating the Cretaceous, A Tale of Survival" (2013). Both books are published under the pseudonym Kurt M. V. Rich. Based upon the real life story of the discovery of the so-called Lydian Hoard in modern Turkey in the mid 1960's, over three hundred fifty artifacts are looted from a Sixth Century BC tomb found in southwestern Turkey near the modern city of Usak, smuggled to Switzerland, then later sold to the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Knowing the items are stolen the Met intentionally hides the treasures in their basement for over a decade before finally approving a lot of ten pieces to be displayed in a larger exhibit. What follows is their discovery and an ensuing six year lawsuit between the Republic of Turkey and the all powerful Metropolitan Museum of Art. Using over 1200 pages of previously unpublished court transcripts from the National Archives, the story follows the the Met's prevarications, disingenuity, the unexpected and highly secret verdict , repatriation of the cache to Turkey and the surprise ending which proves greed, arrogance and deceit are rampant in the worldwide trade of stolen antiquities. Perhaps Turkish antiquities and the art world are not your cup of tea. If you're a fan of the original "Jurassic Park" (the novel, not the significantly modified movie) and not the derivative, schlocky Hollywood sequels, "Re-Creating the Cretaceous: A Tale of Survival" is the equal of the original JP novel and head-and-shoulders above Hollywood's feeble successors. Forget also the totally implausible tale of dino DNA derived from the blood of a mosquito preserved in amber, "Re-Creating the Cretaceous" is a credible tale of the recovery of viable dinosaur DNA and the creatures bred on an island in the south Pacific, far from prying eyes. Prominent throughout the book are the latest creatures discovered within the past twenty years, including the Cryolophosaurus (mini T-Rex), the menacingly lethal Australovenator (a raptor on steroids or 'the cheetah of the Cretaceous' ) as well as a lake full of predatory prehistoric sea creatures. Please Note: Both books are adult level novels and include both graphic language and violence. They are not intended as bedside stories for minors, unless you want your child or grandchild to grow up to be another Hannibal Lector. Both books are available online through all worldwide Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Google outlets as well as in e-book formats for Kindle, Nook and through iTunes for the iPad. I have just finished writing a new but unpublished short story, "An Unexpected Gift: A Tale of the Alamo, February-March 1836." I am also actively looking for a competent translator as well as someone with connexions to have "Re-Creating the Cretaceous" both translated into Spanish and published worldwide with a reputable Spanish language publisher. The publisher does not have to be based in the USA. Anyone with su...(read more) |
