About John R. Howerton was born October 8, 1934, to Corum and Mamie Howerton in Purdy, MO., and died August 18, 2011. He was married to his high school sweetheart for 55 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Donna and sister Rebecca Ann Drennan. He is also survived by brothers and sisters in-law: Harold and Karen Garrison, Gary and Barbara Perryman, and Sharon Garrison; he is also survived by special nieces and nephews: Lorie and Jamie Fischer, Stephanie and Aaron Jernigan, Cristy and Chris Mitchell, Brent and Kenna Garrison, Bradley and Monica Perryman, Mark and Sue Perryman, and Kelly and Lindsey Garrison; great nieces and nephews: Bailey and Lexie, Colson, Chloe, Carter and Crosby, Scott, Amanda, Sean, Jake and Anna, Katlyn and Kaiden. John was a graduate of Wheaton high School and Missouri State University. He was a teacher/coach at both Willard high School and Hillcrest High School. After retiring from teaching and coaching for 30 years he worked part-time for Premier marketing. John was an avid sports enthusiast. He played basketball in high school and college. He also enjoyed spending lots of time on the course playing golf with his buddies at both Twin Oaks and Greene Hills. John also served in the US Army Reserve. John was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home East from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on August 19, 2011, with services to be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on August 20, 2011, at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be at White Chapel Cemetery. A special thanks to the staff at St. John's Hospital for their loving care. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorial donations may be made to Missouri State University Scholarship Fund in honor of John Howerton, or the American Heart Association .
