About	Robert Benson Mahan died on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from complications following open-heart surgery. Always the consummate entertainer, Benny lived his life to the fullest, from his first gig at a cave in Doling Park all the way to Madison Square Garden. Benny loved his family and shared his joy for life with everyone through his gift of music and humor. Benny was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Roberta Mahan; and his brother Sam. Benny is survived by his life partner and soul mate, Ginger; and his children, Maggi, Briggs and Isha. Saying goodbye are Maggi's husband, Jason, and their son, Logan; Briggs' children, Lexi and Raylee; and Isha's friend Drew. Other survivors include Maggi's mother, Sheila Rehagen and husband, Dick; Briggs' and Isha's mother, Yvette Fulkerson; nieces and nephews, Jill, Jeff, Joel and Julie; and too many friends to name. Funeral services will be held at the 1 p.m. Sunday, in the Oasis Convention Center, in Springfield, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A musical tribute to Benny's life will be planned at a later date. All who wish to gather informally and share memories of Benny are invited to gather from one to 6 p.m. Saturday, at American Legion Post No. 639, 2660 S. Scenic Ave. Food and beverages will be available, and musicians will perform. (Bring lawn chairs; no coolers allowed.) In lieu of flowers, Benny would prefer everyone be kind and help one another.
