About Joan Darleen Delzell, 53, Springfield, Missouri passed on to be with the Lord January 14, 2001. Joan was born Dec. 31, 1947, to J.W. and Jean Dilley in Moberly, Mo. She graduated from Hillcrest High School. She married John E. Delzell on June 17, 1966 in Springfield, MO, and was a wonderful homemaker. Joan loved and was loved by her family and friends. She was dedicated to the church and her strong Christian faith. She loved her ministry to babies and children, which included her caring for 89 foster children over a 27-year period. Joan also enjoyed ceramics and crafts. Joan is preceded in death by her parents Rev. J.W. and Jean Dilley. She is survived by her husband, John Delzell, Springfield. Joan is also survived by her son, Dr. John Delzell, Jr. and his wife, Wendy, Columbia, Mo.; and a daughter Melissa D. Tierce and her husband, Troy, Plano, Texas; as well as her grandson, David Delzell, of whom she was very proud. Also surviving are brothers John W. Dilley and his wife, Sue, Walnut Grove, Mo., and James W. Dilley, Olathe, Kan.; and sisters, Patricia Gelszler, Springfield Arleen Nelmi and her husband, Ken, Halfway, Mo., and Sandra Maupin and her husband, Ron, Bolivar, Mo. She is also survived by father-in-law, Joe V. Delzell; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Springhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Quails and Rev. Calvin Maberry officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Klinger Mortuary.
