About	Subjects: Social Studies, Boys Health, P.E., Coach Jerry Neil Gregg, 63, Springfield, Mo., died at 10:02 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1996, in his home. Jerry was born Aug. 20, 1932 in Black Rock, Ark., the son of Opal “Carroll” Lindley. Jerry was a graduate of Thayer High School, Missouri. He played on the New York Giants AAA farm team for five years. After a U.S. Army tour, during the Korean Conflict, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State University in 1958. He earned his Master of Education degree from Drury College in 1967. Jerry gave 32 years of service to the Springfield Public School System. He taught Social Studies and coached football and basketball at Study Junior High School for 3 years. During his 29 years at Hillcrest High School, Jerry taught Social Studies, Health and Physical Education, and coached wrestling, football, swimming, and tennis. He then served as assistant principal for 10 years until his retirement in 1990. Jerry was an avid softball player for many years. In 1991 he was inducted into the Southwest Missouri Basketball Officials Association Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Judith Ann Gregg; a daughter, Krista Lee Steiger, Kansas City, Mo.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, James W. and Cora Cox, Jefferson City, Mo.,; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. William H. Hervey II, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; two nephews, William H Hervey III and his wife, Elizabeth, Columbia, Mo., and Christopher James Hervey, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; two nieces and their husbands, Jill Kathleen and Joe Wigginton, and Kimberly Jean and John Moffitt, all of Kansas City, Mo.; an uncle, Jess Carroll, Nixa, Mo.; several cousins, many dear friends, and his beloved animals, Katy, Scottie, and Tabitha. Jerry will long be remembered for his instant willingness to help a friend, his devotion to his family, his devotion to Table Rock Lake fishing, and his loyalty to Hillcrest High School. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 1996, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with the Rev. Neal Grubaugh officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. No formal visitation is planned, however, friends may call after 12 noon today in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Jerry Gregg Memorial Scholarship, Hillcrest High School, 3319 N.
