Mildred D. Keener, 88, native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and retired school teacher, died at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Maranatha Village, Springfield, Missouri, where she had been a resident for the past five years. Funeral services for Mildred Keener will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, Midtown Chapel. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Mildred D. Keener was born on July 30, 1920, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Cassius and Edna Padgett Paslay. She was reared in Bartlesville and attended the Bartlesville public schools. She and L. B. Keener were married in Bartlesville on November 13, 1937. In the early years of her marriage, Mildred accompanied her husband, an Assemblies of God minister, as he preached and she played the piano and organ in various Oklahoma churches. They also sang duets and were quite the tennis doubles players. When Rev. Keener was called to Springfield, Missouri, to serve as the National Sunday School Representative, Mildred went back to school at Southwest Missouri State College and earned a teaching degree. She was a member of the first staff at Hillcrest High School and remained there until her husband was transferred to the West Coast. There she attended Chapman College where she earned a Master of Arts in Counseling. Mildred taught school in California and Oklahoma before retiring from her profession. The Rev. L. B. Keener preceded her in death after 48 years of marriage. Mildred Keener will lie in state at the Klingner-Cope Midtown Chapel where friends may call for visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Survivors include one son, Barney and Kim Keener; two grandsons, Scott and Cindy Keener and Randy and Angela Keener; three great-granddaughters, McKensie, Jessica and Haiden; a sister, Naomi Fitch and three adult nieces, Charlotte, Phyllis and Laurie.
