Gerhart, died at 6 a.m today at his home at Oldfield in Christian County after a long illness. He was 76. Mr. Gerhart lived at Oldfield the past three years. He formerly was a resident of Greene and Webster Counties. A graduate of the former Senior (now Central) High School and Springfield Teachers College (now Southwest Missouri State University), Mr. Gerhart earned a master's degree in mathematics from Drury College. He taught school for a time at Fair Grove, then spent 20 years in Springfield's Public School system, teaching for several years at Hillcrest High School and Pipkin Junior High. An ordained Baptist minister for more than 50 years, Mr. Gerhart served at several area churches, including 16 years at Fair Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dyke Hurd, Oldfield; one brother, Henry, a resident of Fremont Manor Nursing Home in Springfield; and two grandchildren. The body has been cremated, under direction of Greenlawn South. No services are planned. The family suggests that donations be made to youth organizations.
