About | Gearl L. Euliss, 58, of Springfield, Mo., passed from this life to his eternal reward on May 5, 2007, in Cox South Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 29, 1949, in Springfield, to Homer and Gertrude (Ball) Euliss, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Hillcrest High School and attended Southwest Missouri State University and was a lifelong resident of Springfield, where he was employed in management positions by Gibson Discount, Venture Stores and Zenith Electronics. He was a founding member of Springfield Bird Hunters Club and served in many positions with the association. He was inducted into the National Bird Hunters Hall of Fame in 2006. Gearl accepted Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized in the Springfield Church of God (Holiness) where he attended. Surviving Gearl are is wife, Betty; a son, James Euliss; and a daughter, Cynthia Euliss, all of Springfield; a daughter, LaDawna Simmons and her husband, Edgar; and a grandson, Joshua, of Strafford. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Shirley Willis and her husband, Toby, of Springfield, and Dorothy Clouse and her husband, Billy, of Mansfield; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Monday, May 7, from 6 to 8 in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at 1635 N. Benton, Springfield, with services to be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Darrel Swearengin and Reverend Dennis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Norman Knowlton III, for all his care and compassion while caring for Gearl.
