About | Edna Jane (Jennings) Lawson, 64, was born May 7, 1943, in Springfield, Mo. She went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2007, in Bermuda Dunes, Calif. Jane grew up in Springfield, Mo. Jane gave her life to the Lord at a very young age. She was very devoted to her church, First Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1961. She attended Bethany Nazarene College. She married Doug Lawson, March 21, 1964. She received her BA in 1970 from Pasadena Nazarene College and an elementary school teaching credential one year later. In 1977 Jane received her MA in Education from the University of Redlands and her lifetime teaching credential. She held a lifetime Community College Instructor Credential. Jane was an accomplished teacher in the Morongo Unified School District. In 1974 she was the Assistant Director of Reading for the district and became the Director of Reading in 1975. She received an award as one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America" in 1978 for service to the community. Jane taught for 20 years until her health would not allow. Jane was preceded in death by her father Arnold Jack Jennings, killed on Iwo Jima in 1945; her mother Ersa Mae Gossett; and her grandparents. She is survived by her two daughters, Terri Lawson of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., and Kimberly and her husband, Chad Carpenter, of Bayfield, Colo.; one grandson, Quentin Carpenter; and seven brothers & sisters, Arnola Matthews/Richter of Green Forest, Ark., Connie Vaughan, Leonard Smallwood, Jr., both of Springfield, Mo., Charles Smallwood of Albia, Iowa, Cynthia Curtis of Tucson, Ariz., Daniel Gossett of Harrisonville, Mo., Ruth Ellen Rogers of Clinton, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends. Jane was a very loving, positive person, always looking for the best in everyone and refused to let anything get her down or get in the way of her goals. On January 12, 2008, there will be a celebration of Jane's life in First Nazarene Church, Springfield, Mo., where she grew up. All friends are invited to come and join the family in this drop-in occasion from 2 until 5 p.m. Any memorials may be made to First Church of the Nazarene building fund.
