About Richard N. "Dick" Chrisman, 80, Springfield, passed away Monday, October 2, 2006, in St. John's Regional Health Center. Dick was born May 5, 1926, in Springfield, the youngest of nine children born to Roy Clifford and Pearl Turner Chrisman. He was a graduate of Springfield Senior High. His education was interrupted by his U.S. Navy service during World War II. He returned to graduate from SMS and later earned a master's degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Dick spent 12 years in education as a basketball coach and math and history teacher, serving at Clever High School, Central High School and Hillcrest High School. Several years after joining his brothers at White Castle Company, Inc., he and Roy Street founded Springfield Building Maintenance, Inc., which evolved into a commercial real estate development and property management company. He was still active in the company at the time of his death. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for the past 51 years and was also a longtime member of Hickory Hills Country Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters. Dick is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joan Schupbach Chrisman, they married March 22, 1951, in Springfield; twin daughters, Jen Kennally, Overland Park, Kansas, and Jan Sederholm, Springfield; daughter, Anne Pinter and husband, Dave, Marietta, Georgia; cherished grandchildren, Lauren Moore, Kate Kennally and Kevin Clark; a brother, Robert Chrisman and wife, Julia, San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, June Chrisman, Springfield, Mary Gahagen, Ozark, Imogene Young, San Antonio, Texas, and Hazel Phipps, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, October 5, 2006, in St. Paul United Methodist Church (now First UMC) with the Reverend Wesley J. Arington officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 4535 West Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, MO 65802 or the Springfield Boys and Girls Clubs, 1410 N. Fremont, Springfield, MO 65802.
