Passed away 2008

Richard Allen (dick) Schroff attended Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, KS.

Class of 1953
Date of Passing Jun 06, 2008
Dick died on June 29, 2008 in Corvallis, Oregon from a massive heart attack. He was in the ICU of our wonderful local hospital recovering from major surgery of a blocked bowel caused by a duodenal ulcer. The heart attack was totally unexpected. He was surrounded by his loving family & managed to tell each of us a last goodbye. His loss is devasting, especially to Gerriann (Gerri) Long Schroff, his high school sweetheart & wife of nearly 52 years.
Many of you will remember his time at HHS: he was always a dynamic person involved deeply in all sports, honor society, class president, student body preisdent, and best boyfriend ever! He attended K.U. on a number of different scholarships & graduated as a Chemical Engineer in 1958. He had successful careers in the oil & gas industry; the tread rubber industry and in later years, was a successful insurance agent for Farmers Insurance in Corvallis. He and Gerri were blessed with 3 children: Rick, who is the father of Cliff, Emily and Abby and is now the owner of Schroff Insurance Agency and lives in Corvallis; Lisa Oken, who is married to Dr. Andrew Oken & the mother of Eleanor Ruth and Reed and is a surgical nurse in Portland, Oregon; and Clint, who is married to Mary Kay and is the father of Michael Highland Schroff and is a successful real estate broker in College Station, TX. Dick profoundly loved his kids and grandkids-they affectionately called him "Poobah" & all miss him greatly.
Many people have written and called since Dick's death and I want everyone to know that your caring is so very meaningful. I am grateful for each of you and for the wonderful years that Dick and I shared. We always loved Hiawatha and our time spent there.
Lovingly submitted by Gerriann Long Schroff
