New Trends in Recycling for Hialeah and Miami Lakes
Many residents in Hialeah and Miami Lakes are unaware of the different types of electronic items that can be recycled and the various outlets to recycle e-waste. In fact, electronic waste or e-waste includes end-of-life household batteries, toner cartridges, television sets, central processing units, printers, laptops, phones, radios, and monitors. Recycling of electronic is very important since some contain lead, nickel, cadmium, and mercury which “could pose risks to human health or the environment if mismanaged at their end-of-life” (epa.gov). E-waste recycling is also beneficial to the economy because valuable components such as gold and copper can be reused in the manufacturing process. In addition, recycling companies can create jobs by hiring technicians to repair and refurbish recycled electronic items. The refurbished electronics can then be donated or sold at super discounted prices to schools, low-income families and non-profit organizations. There are a number of organizations in Miami-Dade County that offer free e-waste recycling services. HML 74 40th year Reunion
