About Me	I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I think I'm getting close... Married to Cathy Cates Ivey for 37 years. Cathy has taught chemistry for her entire career; currently @ MB High School and summers at Birmingham-Southern College. 2 children: David, who is the assistant basketball coach @ the University of Alabama in Huntsville; Mary (27), who is the Manager of Administrative Services at Medmanagement. I've spent 38 years in various educational roles: • Co-founder of TechKnowledge Birmingham, a knowledge transfer company. We are now located in the Innovation Depot (old Sears bldg.!) • 9 years in sales/sales management at New Horizons Computer Learning Center of Birmingham. • Basketball coach at all levels: from little guys to high school (Jones Valley/Hewitt-Trussville/Homewood) to head coach of UAB women's program. Organized the first UAB women’s basketball overnight summer camp for middle/high school girls. •Taught History, Government, and Economics @ Jones Valley, Hewitt-Trussville, and Homewood High Schools. • Former part-time instructor in UAB History Department: Western Civ and U.S. History • Founded the Central Alabama Youth Foundation in 2003. Mission is to use basketball to attract at-risk (not fond of that term; maybe “community dependent?”) young adult males—and help them find their way into the socioeconomic mainstream.
