Good News-Bonnie Bannister(Young)

Bonnie Bannister(Young) who would have graduated with the HHS Class of 60 and her husband stopped close by my place in Az on 21 Jan 2013. Bonnie went to Herlong Elementry School in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. We had a great talk about our times in Herlong(I am sure we bored her husband to tears). we talked for about an hour and a half and then they had to get on their way home to Texas. It was a "Great" get together, we were 10 or 11 years old again.

If anyone else is down my way in the future, please feel free to stop and talk.

Best Wishes Gene&Jan McCullough.

Bob Hardesty-Obits

Robert (Bob) A. Hardesty left his loving family and friends on August 10, 2012 after a 7 1/2 month battle with breast cancer. With Hospice care he was able to remain at his daughter's home in Sparks, NV. Bob was born in Lakeview, Oregon on September 4, 1938 to Ernest and Juanita Hardesty, joining brother Lorne and sister Jackie a year later. The family left the Lakeview area when Bob was 3 years-old to move to Sierra Army Depot, in Herlong, California where his father, who was a carpenter, helped build the base. Bob attended school in Herlong, graduating from Herlong High School in 1957. He married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Huntley Hardesty and attended a year of Lassen Junior College while adding to the family with a son, Robert and two daughters, Lynda and Penny. Bob loved Lassen County and all it had to offer as an avid outdoorsman and would take off fishing or hunting at a moment's notice with the family or friends. He loved all sports and took part in them all during his school years and even playing softball until he was 30. After an industrial accident in 1969 and his subsequent retirement from Federal Service, he moved his family to Ontario, Oregon and then to Baker City, Oregon. After selling their home in Baker City, Bob & Dixie bought a motor home and became snowbirds, spending winters in Yuma, AZ, summers in Oregon, spring in Nevada and fall on the Oregon Coast and as many other places as they could fit in. Bob and Dixie loved to travel and were always planning the next outing with family or friends. While in California, Bob was a Little League Coach for many years and could always be found teaching and taking the neighborhood kids fishing or hunting. In Oregon he was a volunteer at the Christian Church Food Bank each month, server for Senior Lunches or helping with a project. He was a Good Sam member and enjoyed many fun outings with good friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dixie, of 55 years, son Robert of W. Richland, WA, daughters Lynda (Rick) McLellan of Sparks, NV and Penny (Wolf) Clemens of Trabuco Canyon, CA. Grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer and Nathan Hardesty of Portland, OR., Chase Clemens of Trabuco, CA, Lisa (Isaiah) Eukel of Las Vegas, NV, Ricky McLellan of Alamogordo, NM and a great grandson, Dominick of Las Vegas. Nephews, Bart (Stephanie) Marsters, Bryan Marsters, Blake (Lynn) Martsters of Herlong, CA and Brett (Julie) Marsters, of Paradise, CA, Chad (Beth) Huntley, Albuquerque, NM, nieces, Lorna Mae Thomas, Baker City, OR, Karen (Doug) Kircher, Couer d'Alene, ID, Heidi and Heather Huntley, Irvine, CA, and several cousins and many good friends who will miss him so much.

A Celebration of life will be held at his daughter's home in Sparks on August 25th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's name to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation , or charity of your choice .
