About	Richard was born on March 21, 1948, along with his twin brother Thom. The boys attended McKinley Elementary School and would have both proceeded on to Wilson Jr. High together, however, Richard was promoted a grade and entered Wilson as a 7th grader in 1959. Richard continued on to Hoover High School, and graduated in 1965. He started his career at the San Diego Zoo in food service, flipping burgers. Richard served in the Army, went to Vietnam, was seriously wounded and after returning to the States, resumed his career in food service at "The Zoo." Richard climbed the ladder to become the director of food service. In 2002, change was in the air. Richard was promoted to "The Director" of the San Diego Zoo. Richard remained as "Director" until his retirement in 2008. A celebration and remembrance of Richard was held on April 29, 2016, at The San Diego Zoo. Family, friends and colleagues shared fond memories of a wonderful guy.....taken too soon.
