About | Darcy Lane Pohland, 48, of Minneapolis. Beloved sister and aunt, devoted godmother, exquisite friend, passed away peacefully March 5, 2010. She will be deeply missed by brothers Jeff; Todd, sister-in-law Holly, niece Kate and nephew Will. Preceded in death by father Ralph and mother Toby. Her friends and fans are many and our sorrow is deep. Darcy was an employee of WCCO-TV since 1986 and an accomplished news reporter for 16 years. She was an intern for WCCO in Washington DC in 1983 when a diving accident left her paralyzed. Rehabilitation followed at the University of MN Hospital and Courage Center. Darcy faced her physical limitations with extraordinary courage and determination. Her perseverance allowed her to realize her dream of a career in broadcast journalism. A humble person who never forgot a name, Darcy became a community icon, a champion for the disadvantaged, a mentor to so many. Even though she made her home on the Minneapolis riverfront, she never forgot her roots in St. Paul. Perhaps there was never a more enthusiastic sports fan. Other passions included the theatre, music and a lifelong love of animals, large and small. Memorials preferred to animal rescue organizations and to Courage Center, or charity of choice. Darcy would prefer that you give close to your heart ~ and to find joy in each day. A celebration of Darcy's life will take place at The Guthrie Theatre at 10 am on Friday, March 12. Consider wearing maroon and gold. |
