About Me | I like to say that I am the genealogist of the family; others can say if that is an accurate statement. I feel that genealogy is a bridge for my family to understanding the lives of past generations and how they lived. I was born in Cedarville, California, a small town near the Oregon/Nevada border. My brother, Michael, was also born in Cedarville. At the age of two my father joined the American Red Cross which then dictated the many moves that I was to make before "settling down" in what I call my "home town", Palo Alto, California, where my father was born. From Cedarville my family moved to the San Francisco bay area where we lived in San Francisco, San Leandro, San Lorenzo and Alameda, where my brother Mark was born. In late 1957, while my father was in Korea, we moved, to be with my maternal grandparents, to Taylor, Michigan. During the following years we would usually move every few years, like military families, as my father would be attached to military bases in his role with the Red Cross. In 1958 we joined my father in Yokohama, Japan where we lived for almost three years and where my brother Robert was born. We returned to Alameda where my parents bought a house and then moved to Oak Harbor, Washington which is about 30 thirty miles northwest of Seattle where my sister Ann was born. It was then off to Salinas and next to Great Falls, Montana. My parents divorced and we moved back to Alameda for a year and my parents sold the house and my mother, my siblings and I moved to Palo Alto to be near my paternal grandparents who had settled in Palo Alto in the mid 1920's. I moved to Evanston, Illinios, a suburb of Chicago, in 1968, to live with my father. I got homesick for the rest of my family and moved back to Palo Alto. I attended Gunn Senior High and after graduation worked at two jobs, which I also had during high school, working in the KarmelKorn candy store in downtown Palo Alto and also worked for a S.F. Chronicle delivery dealership. Attended Foothill Junior College in 1974-1976 and met two of my closest friends, Bob Eicholz and Dina Rasor. I transferred to Georgetown University and finished in 1981. I had been going to Georgetown part-time since 1978 when I started a full-time job at the University where I have worked ever since. I got married in 1981 and divorced in 1985. I met Deborah in 1988 and we married in 1989. After several delays, exhausting modern science and the pregnancy "from hell", when Debbie became very ill, Jared and Isabel were born in October of 2001. A major impact on my life now relates to the accident I had at work in April 2004. A large disk array (2000 lbs) fell off a delivery truck and struck me; breaking my back, 11 ribs, puncturing a lung, breaking my left hand and injuring both knees. I was in the hospital for almost 6 weeks and out of work for six months. I am on daily pain medication which my doctors ...(read more) |
