While attending Henderson High School, Bob was an active member of the chess club and the track team. Bob, along with his other team members, Brent Allen, Mike Glover, and Bob Dorsey, were often mentioned in local newspapers for winning the 880 and the mile relays, setting new records for both events. They were known as the 1968 Warrior Squad.
