About GREGORY DEAN VAN ETTEN Gregory Dean "V" Van Etten, 56, of Lenexa, KS, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, from a heart attack. Greg was born Feb. 21, 1961, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Arnold and Catherine "Anne" (McKone) Van Etten. "V", as many lovingly referred to him, attended Hempstead High School and continued his education at Morningside College where he graduated with a business degree, was co-captain of the football team and a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Greg moved to Olathe, KS, after college and later started his own business, Labor Pros, which he owned and operated for over 20 years. He was an avid sports fan and one of his favorite pastime was cheering on his daughter, Vanessa, as she participated in various athletic activities. He sponsored and was a member of a competition BBQ team. He loved spending time with family and friends and was overjoyed by the birth of his grandson, Ellis. Greg touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter, Vanessa (Van Etten) Patton and son-in-law, Chris of Olathe, KS; grandson, Ellis Dean Patton of Olathe, KS; father, Arnold Van Etten of Dubuque, IA; two sisters, Julie Van Etten Davis of Hudson, WI, Jennifer Hammel and husband Dennis of Fairfield, IA; nephews, Griffin and Riley Hammel, Reason and Madison Davis; and niece, Olivia Hammel; and former spouse, Julie (Morgan) Hawkins of Olathe, KS. He is preceded in death by his mother, Catherine "Anne" Van Etten, and brother-in-law, Denny Davis. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 15, at Living Hope Church in Olathe, KS. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. In addition, a Night of Remembrance for Greg will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Derby Grange Golf and Recreation, 13079 Derby Grange Rd. in Dubuque, IA 52002.
