About Me | On October 31, 2008, it was on Friday and that night was Halloween night, I found out that I have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia(CLL) and on November 4, 2008 I had a port put in my left shoulder and on November 11, 2008 I went into the hospital to start chemo treatments of which I had chemo treatment for three days, and I had the last chemo treatment in April of 2009 and the last CT scan that I had was back in February 2011 and this was the last time that saw my Dr and the Dr said then that my blood counts waa all ok and that all my lymph nodes were within normal range and that my spleen was normal and that I am in remission. Back in August 2009, is the first time that my Dr had said that I was in remission and he said that I was already in remission, but they like to give two or three more chamo treatments as a precaution and to be sure. Now next month in, May 2011, I go back to see my Dr to have my blood count checked and to see how things are going. So I hope that I get a good report, like I have gotten each and every time that I have gone to see the Dr. My Dr. said that you can't really use the word remission with CLL, like I have, as My Dr. said that if he was to do a Biopsy on a Lymph Node in my neck, he probably would find some CLL cells, so instead of using remission, he says that my CCL is NOT active right now. As I have not needed any more treatments right now, but I might will need more treatments later. But so far, each time I have gone back to see my Dr. which has been every 3 months and I have been having a CT scan every 6 months and I have the next Ct scan in August 2011. Each time that I have been back to see the Dr and each time that I have had a CT time, I have gotten a good report as even though my Dr. has said that my lymph nodes are slightly enlarged, they are not enough that I need treatment and my blood counts has been in the normal range. So like I said I have gotten a good report. The biggest problem that I have now, is trying to keep my blood sugar levels under control, and not have them go to high and get to low. I have been living with type 2 diabetes since 1993. I take Lantus Insulin, which is a long acting insulin, and Aprida, which is a quick, fast acting insulin, Aprida is called a mealtime insulin, because you take it within 15 minutes before you start a meal or within 20 minutes after you start a meal. And also I take oral diabetes medicine too. And I do check my blood sugar levels by sticking my finger and using a glucose monitor. The glucose monitor that I currently use now, is the Life Scan One Touch Ultra Smart and I do like it. I have the One Touch software and the USB cable, so that I can hook my glucose monitor up to my computer and download the meters readings and save them to my computer and I can use the software to look at how my blood sugar levels has been over a 14 day period, or 30, 60 or 90 day period. And I know that I do weigh too much, I weigh about 100 pounds more than I should, and so I know that I need to lo...(read more) |
