| About Me | Traveled a lot and have been to a lot of islands and most of them revisited, for instance I've been to the Bahamas 8 times!...I've been to Hawaii, Bermuda, Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. Martin, St. John, Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Puerto Rico. I've also traveled to Mexico and Canada many times. Lake Tahoe is my favorite place to ski, but the last time we went was in February 2007 where it snowed 3 feet a day. The conditions were horrible to ski. I was skiiing at the olympic ski resort called Squaw Valley and when I arrived at the top of the moutain the winds were at 70 miles per hour and the temperature was 10 degrees! As I was skiing down, the wind was holding me back! Plus the snow was so deep that I couldn't see my skis!...Those were definitely the worst conditions. It was the first time that the ski resorts were closing early or did not even open for the day. When our vacation ended we tried leaving Tahoe, but all roads to the airport were closed so we had to turn around. We positioned ourselves to stay at the south end of Tahoe and take another major highway to get to the airport, but that road ended up closing due to an avalanche! Anyway, we had to drive all the way to North Lake Tahoe and try the original road again. We were all in disbelief when we turned on the highway and found 3 feet of snow. Our chains were breaking and falling off the vehicle. We had to use duct tape on the chains to keep them together. My father-in-law said "I can't believe this is the highway." My brother-in-law said "drop me off at the next exit, I refuse to go any further!" My mother-in-law said "I DON'T EVER WANT TO COME BACK HERE!!!" We were all pretty scared at that point, but continued on the highway. We drove a total of a half-mile and the sheriff had the road blocked and told us to head to the emergency shelter. It was a SCENE at the shelter. The shelter was freezing and there were hundreds of people there. The red cross brought in cots, blankets, food, water, etc. I could not sleep even though I was lucky enough to have a cot and 2 blankets. I laid my daughter on my chest and covered her up with everything I could find, but the cold was unbearable. So I decided to just walk around with her asleep. When she woke up, she said "I want to go home"..."mommy, I want to go home" I WANTED TO GO HOME!!! We stayed at the shelter until the road was re-opened the next morning and headed straight for the airport. We took the next plane out of Sacramento...whew!!!
