| Favorite School Memory | Mr McFadden was a Vice Principal that loved to give loquacious announcements over the PA system. He would drone on and on in a boring monotone-you’d think the man was a robot, not human. AND he always ended an important announcement or concluded his speeches by raising the volume of his voice considerably and drawing out the one syllable word “now” to a several seconds often over ten seconds to Nooooooooooooooooooow. Everyone was getting sick of it, making jokes about it, laughing uncontrollably for that inevitable now and mimicking it to perfection. It was fun at first but people were getting tired of it and praying for the day he would stop using his signature PA announcement send off. . . . Until one day I came up spontaneously with an ingenious way to end the torture. One day in the auditorium everyone was seated but waiting for the program to begin and there was a delay for some reason. So naturally, teenagers being themselves, we began to talk loudly amongst ourselves, crack jokes, throw insults at one another in a game of top that one. Bottom line:it was getting loud and raucous in there-700+ students just losing control. So Mr McFadden rushes onstage and with a booming voice he commands that everyone please calm down, take your seats, and start behaving like responsible adults. At which that exact moment I was thunderstruck with a brilliant idea-I loudly responded to mr. McFadden, “do you mean right “NOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW???” I was sitting in the middle kind of near the back so he couldn’t tell who said it but everyone laughed out hysterically for eon upon eon of seconds. Mr McFadden was frantically scanning the audience trying to ascertain the location and identity of the smart ass culprit-to no avail.
