Andrew Van Koevering
Class of 1997
Army Reserves, 8 Years
Enlisted in the Army Reserves in May of 2003. Completed Basic Combat Training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and then Advanced Individual Training at Ft. Bliss, TX. Was deployed to Iraq in 2004 with the 283rd Transportation Company out of New Haven, CT. Was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism as well as several other commendations. Was deployed again to Iraq in 2009 with the 762nd Transportation Company out of North Canton, OH. Was awarded a second Bronze Star for service in addition to several other awards. Returned home in March of 2010 and will complete his military obligation in May of 2011.

Third tour in Air Force Reserves at Travis AFB, CA as aircraft flight engineer on C-141B and KC-10 airlift/tankers. Served in the first Gulf War in early 1990s. Retired in Sep 1999.

Bill entered the U. S. Army through the R.O.T. C. Program at Western Michigan University in 1970. He retired as a Major in the Field Artillery at Fort Leavenworth, KS in 1990.
Assignments: Spent multiple tours to Germany with the Seventh Corps Artillery; 3d Battalion 17th Field Artillery, (Nuremberg, GERMANY) and the 1st Battalion 76th Artillery and the 2d Battalion 39th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division Artillery (Kitzengin, GE). U. S. assignments included Combat Developments Experimentation Command, Ft. Ord, CA; United States Army Field Artillery School, Ft. Sill, OK; Program Office FIREFINDER/REMBASS, Electronics Development Command, Ft. Monmouth, NJ; Defense Systems Management College, Ft. Belvoir, VA and the, Tactical Missile Defense Office, Combined Arms Combat Developments Activity, Training and Doctrine Command, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. When not working in troop units, Bill was assigned to various Research & Development Programs for the U. S. Army.

(One day and one night attack, Tonkin Gulf. ) 2nd attack assisted by USS Turner Joy.
