Robert P. "Smitty" Smith East Lansing Age 71, passed away peacefully August 3, 2013. He was born January 17, 1942, in Lansing, to Henry and Dorothy Smith. Smitty graduated from Haslett High School in 1960, and Married Anne Whitman in September of 1961. He worked at GM for 30 years, retiring in 1994 as a fork lift operator, and also worked as a farmer. Smitty enjoyed spending time with the fifth-wheel in the U.P. with his family, and spending winters in Florida. He also enjoyed deer hunting, working on his cars and trucks, wood working, and snowmobiling. Surviving are: his wife, Anne; 3 children, Lorie (Mick) Nemeth of Owosso, Paula (Cary) Born of Canton and Robert (Lisa) Smith, Jr., of Perry; 6 grandchildren, Danielle, Ashley, Stephen, Tayler, Courtney and Chase; 2 sisters, Joyce (Alfred) Knight of Dallas, TX and Gloria Martin of Belleville, MI. He is also survived by 2 Yorkies, Muffin and Sadie. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Bath United Methodist Church, 13777 Main St., at a time to be determined, with Pastor Mark Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bath United Methodist Church, Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, Lansing City Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, or American Cancer Society in memory of Robert Smith.
