Born October 31, 1937 in Lansing, passed away on September 18, 2011, at the age of 73. Jerry was a graduate of Haslett High School, and at the age of 18 started as a volunteer with the Meridian Township Fire Department, and then hired by Lansing Township Fire Department, and retired from East Lansing Fire Department as a Lieutenant after 30 years of service in 1994. He raised and showed quarter horses, and was an early member of the Central Michigan Horsemen’s Association. He was also a member of the Michigan and American Quarter Horse Associations. Jerry coached football for Haslett youth football and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Mary Lou; daughter, Ruth Ann Switzer (Willie Muse) Jarrad of Lansing; sons, Steven (Cindy) Cross of Haslett and Jeffrey Switzer of Mio; three grandsons, Hayden and Logan Cross and Riley Switzer; brother, Robert (Margo) Cross of Haslett; sister, Judy (Ron) Ferguson of Haslett; several nieces and nephews, and his buddy, his dog,Bear.

A graveside service will be held Friday, September 23 at 11 a.m. at East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos, Michigan, with Honor Guard and Bell Ceremony provided by East Lansing Fire Department. Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 30200 Telegraph Rd, Ste. 105, Bingham Farms, MI 48025 or American Cancer Society 3100 West Road Bldg. B, Suite 110, East Lansing, MI 48823. Arrangements provided by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing, MI.
