About Marleen Rae (Smith) Gorden, a beacon of warmth and gentleness, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2023, at The Meadows in Owosso, Michigan. Born on June 13, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, to the late Ralph Clarence and Grace Arlene (Cross) Smith, Marleen's life was a testament to love, family, and friendship.

Marleen's early years in Lansing were filled with the joys of childhood and the bonds of family. She found her lifelong companion in Andrew "Andy" Gorden, whom she met in high school. Their love blossomed into a beautiful marriage on March 25, 1967, at Okemos Community Church. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership that would last until Andy's passing.

With a nurturing spirit, Marleen embraced motherhood with open arms. She and Andy started their family young, filling their home with laughter, love, and the patter of little feet. Although she was a talented hairdresser for a short time, Marleen's true calling was her role as a devoted wife and mother.

Marleen's professional life included cherished years working at JCPenney, where she formed lasting friendships and touched the lives of many with her friendly demeanor. Her colleagues remember her as a loving and gentle presence, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.

Her interests were as warm and inviting as her personality. Marleen was a great cook, known for her delicious meals that brought everyone together around the table. She and Andy enjoyed trips to Florida, basking in the sunshine and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Marleen was also an avid supporter of her family's sporting events, cheering from the sidelines with pride and enthusiasm.

Social by nature, Marleen loved visiting with people from all walks of life. She had a special tradition of meeting her brothers for lunch, cherishing these moments of connection and camaraderie. Marleen and Andy also shared a love for playing cards, welcoming friends and family for a game and good conversation.

Marleen's legacy is carried on by her loving sister, Marcia Shellenberger, and brothers, Ron (Linda Cobert) Smith and Rick (Denise) Smith. She was a cherished grandmother to Joshua (Angela Yates) Gorden, Jacob (Hannah) Gorden, Darin (Rilee Hubbard) Gorden, and Drew Gorden. Her great-grandson, Landon, will grow up hearing stories of her kindness and love. Marleen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andy, her sons Troy and Aaron, and her parents.

Those who knew Marleen will remember her as the embodiment of love, friendliness, and her unshakable devotion to her family.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 6:00pm at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, 520 W. Main St. Owosso. The Gorden family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2:00pm.

Memorial Contributions on Marleen's name can be directed to McLaren Hospice.
