Joel DeLand
Class of 1998
Army, 5 Years
Staff Sergeant in the US Army, Infantry. 15 month deployment to Iraq SEP 07- NOV 08 and 12 month to Afghanistan Jan 10-Dec 10. Awards include Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, and parachutist Badge as well as numerous medals from both deployment and garrison. Has served as a rifleman, grenadier, team leader, squad leader, weapons squad leader, and platoon sergeant.

Coast Guard, 20+ Years
Enlisted in August 1960, advanced through the ranks to First Class PO, graduated from OSC in Jan. 1966. Served on a Polar Ice Breaker in the Artic and Antarctic as an assistant engineer, and on a High Endurance Cutter as Chief Engineer. Served in Marine Inspection offices in Seattle, Baltimore and Honolulu. Last duty station was in Japan, first as an independent inspector, then as the XO of the Kobe, Japan Marine Inspection Office Retired in March 1981.

Our Harpursville High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done!
