About	ohn Martin Potter was born on February 23, 1958 in Manning, Iowa to Vivian (Volkmann) Potter and Martin Potter. He attended school and graduated from Harlan High School in Harlan, Iowa in 1976. After graduation, John attended college at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He then transferred to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Forestry. After graduating college, he attended a summer internship at national parks near Missoula, Montana. After leaving Montana, John went to Chicago, Illinois working in the insurance industry. He later relocated to Des Moines, Iowa working for over 30 years as an adjuster. While working for the insurance company he attended business classes through the University of Iowa. John had many hobbies and interests. Some of these included traveling, road trips, bridges, cars and trucks. He attended a mission trip in Brazil and India and he also went down to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help in recovery efforts. One of Johns favorite activities was playing frisbee golf with his friends in Des Moines. John passed away on December 11, 2023 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian and Martin Potter. He is survived by his sisters, Noreen (Rodney) Shannon of Manilla, IA, Judy (Robert) Tillwick of Omaha, NE, and Paula (Barry) Ray of Omaha, NE; nephews; a niece; other relatives and friends.
