About Ivan Simmons, a well know and respected St. Augustine business owner, passed away quietly at his home November 23, 2007 after a struggle of sixteen months with several major health issues. He was just 61 years old. Ivan was born in Leesburg, Florida to I.C. and Marjorie Simmons. He was raised in South Central Florida, and graduated from Hardee County High School. He moved to St. Augustine in 1987 an owned several businesses, including Florida Cash Pawn. Ivan loved people and enjoyed listening to the many folks who would stop into his business. He enjoyed making everyone who came in to see him feel welcome and special.

He was a kind man, and often would quietly help out total strangers. Ivan was liked by everyone that met him. He had a big heart and was a frequent supporter of the homeless. He was recognized by Who's Who in America, a member of the National Pawn Brokers Association, and the National Watch Guild. Most important to Ivan was that he was a beloved husband, son, and brother.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce H. Simmons of St. Augustine; his caregiver: Denise Crawford; his mother: Marjorie Frances Ennis of St. Augustine; his father: I.C. Simmons of Vero Beach, Florida; his step-daughters: Tammy Taylor of St. Augustine, and Patricia Taylor of Louisville, Kentucky; step-son: Steven Howe of St. Augustine; his sisters: Emily Catherine Estes of Avon Park, Florida; Marjorie Elaine Johnson of Alabama; Mary Frances Elkins of St. Augustine; Lesandra Ann Dunn of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his brothers: Gerald Lee Simmons of Arcadia, Florida; William Daniel Ennis, Jr. of Daytona, Florida; David Earl Ennis of Ft. Myers, Florida; four grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Craig Funeral Home, with the funeral service being help Thursday morning at 10:00 am at Craig Funeral Home. The burial and committal will take place at 1:00 pm Friday at New Hope Cemetery in Wauchula , Florida near the graves of his grandparents May and O.L. Williams.
