About Gerald Wayne (Jerry) Mabry, Retired Lt. Col. United States Army, went to be with his Lord on October 24, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Long Mabry; daughters, Carolynn Mabry Deweese, Pam Sola and husband, Vinnie Sola; sons, Matthew Mabry and James Mabry; grandchildren, Autumn Deweese, and Micah Sola, all of Blacksburg. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Mabry Hudson and husband, Judson B. Hudson, of Hampton, Cissy Street, of Slidell, La., Trionne Hilliard, of Chicago, Ill., and Kristin Mabry, of Juneau, Ala.; brother, William K. Mabry and wife, Martha Mabry, of Radford; his stepmother, Diane L. Mabry, of Radford; his mother-in-law, Mabel E. Long, of Blacksburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Susie Long, of Blacksburg, John and Shelby Long, of Blacksburg, Mary and Glen Phillips, of Floyd, Lois and Mike Caldwell, of Floyd, Donna and Calvin Meadows, N.C.; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin G. Mabry, of Radford, and Mary E. (Libby) Thompson, of Slidell, La., his sister, Susan Giroir, of Slidell, La.
Jerry graduated from Virginia Tech in 1978 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He was employed by three firms in Virginia and Louisiana in conjunction with his civil engineering career. Lt. Col. Mabry served in the U. S. Army reserves during periods from 1970 to when he retired from the 377th TRACOM in 1993. He served active duty in Vietnam during 1969 and 1970 as a 1st Lieutenant in Company B 27th Engineering Combat. Jerry always promoted education and extra curricular activities for his children and grandchildren. He wanted special mention to be made of his predeceased father-in-law, Ralph Woodrow Long Sr., who served in World War II. He also made special mention of son, Matthew, for his care taking of his father over the years.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012, in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Reed and the Rev. Rocky Huff officiating. Interment will follow in the Zack Price/James R. Long Memorial Cemetery, Prices Fork. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
