Infantry, Served in country from December of 1967 with 199th Light Infantry Charley Company 3/7 Infantry till being medivaced to Camp Drake in Osaka Japan for three months. Spent the Tet Offensive on the roof of the U.S. Embassy in Saigon for three days after they brought us in from Bi en Chan. I was wounded in August of 1968, and finished up my military service in Okinawa as a security driver for the Adjutant General of Okinawa

PFC John D. Krische was Killed in Action at the Battle of Ong Thahn on October 17, 1967. John was serving with Company "A" 2nd Battalion 28th Infantry Regiment, (The Black Lions ) 1st Infantry Div. John's under strenghthed Battalion walked into and ambush site controlled by 2500 vietcong soldiers. His company and a sister company were decimated in less then an Hour. 58 US servicemen were KIA 75 WIA 2 MIA. John was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for Valor, Bronze Star medal with Oak leaf cluster( in leu of 2nd award) Purple Heart Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service, And Vietnam Campaign medal, All Posthumously. The Town of Hempstead will be honoring PFC John D. Krische with a street dedication on Friday, October 3, 2008. The corner of Bell Street And Munson Ave, In West Hempstead have been selected . John Lived on Nassau Blvd, but always played on Munson Ave. He graduated from carey in 1965.

Returned to Ft. Benning and finished my active duty tour at the Infantry School until my discharge in 1972.
