About BELL, NORMAN GEORGE July 3, 1950 to June 3, 2009 Norman Bell went to be with the Lord on June 3, 2009. Norman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Virginia, his two sons, Norman Jr., and Matthew Bell, his daughter-in-law Holley, his two young grandchildren Ethan and Christian, extended family, and many dear friends. Norman was a native San Diegan, born and raised in El Cajon where he attended Grossmont High School, and graduated from SDSU, (which was then named Cal State University San Diego). Norman married the love of his life Virginia in March of 1972 and started a family in Lemon Grove where he lived for 37 years. Norman retained close connections to childhood friends he grew up with and because of his love for people, he had many fond friendships throughout his life. Norman was a member of UFCW for 35 years. He served as an officer, Secretary Treasurer, and then President of Local 135. His tenacity and devotion to the cause of the members of Local 135 was prevalent in the wages and benefits that he negotiated for over 14,000 members that he represented. Under his tenure, the members of Local 135 received wages and benefits that are unmatched even compared to today's current contracts. A lover of British history, Norman made many memorable visits to England and Europe with family and friends. He had a great fondness for British military memorabilia as well as historical books and model trains. He shared his joys in life in many ways such as building an extensive Thomas the Tank engine play set for his grandchildren. Norman's love of life and his devotion to his family and friends were evident in every aspect of his life. He will be sorely missed. There will be a Viewing on Thursday, June 11th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Featheringill Mortuary, 6322 El Cajon Blvd., San Diego, CA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 12th, at St. Paul Methodist Church in Coronado, 700 D Avenue, Coronado, CA.
