| Favorite School Memory | Homecoming- I loved the way the whole town all came together to paint the store fronts, the parade of floats, and the pep rally in the park. The TP! Grinnell is the most beautiful place I have ever lived in. The people the finest. My most treasured memories are those with my best friend then,Sandy Stuart and our friends our junior year. (the only one I attended.) Thank you all for all those crazy times running around in the country drinking beer, meeting up with the football players from Brooklyn, and the drive-in theater on prom night. What I would give for a Made-rite. If any of you rem...(read more) |
| About Me | I was a bit of a gypsy after I left Grinnell in the fall of 71. I moved several times before I met my husband, Ed, while attending Western Carolina University. We got married after college in '79 and I moved several more times before arriving in our favorite location in the foothills of NC. We lived in Shelby, NC where we, literally, built our log home on the edge of Moss Lake. Great experience, since I was pregnant at the time with our first son ,Jimmy! Our second son John, joined us two years later. While there, I taught at the Jr. High and Ed was the general manager for Vision Cable. After 4 wonderful years, we were transferred to the coast in1986. Our new hometown, Swansboro, was a sleepy shrimping town on the inner coastal water way, next to Emerald Isle. Ed was made the general manager for several counties, while I worked as a special education teacher at a middle school and later the high school. Two years after retiring we decided to relocate to Sunset Beach, to be near my mother and Ed's brother/wife. We love our new home. We have a small finger lake in the back yard and are two blocks away from the intercostal waterway again. We have two beaches within 2 miles of our home and all the golf courses in the world for Ed to try out. We are a short drive from Myrtle Beach,SC and Wilmington,NC. We've been here a little over 4 years and are having the best time. I just retired again after teaching four year olds in the NC Pre-k state program designed to enhance kindergarten transition. My sons are happy in their lives and careers. Jimmy lives in Brooklyn,NY were he supports his writing and music career as a bartender in a 5 star cocktail bar that use to be the old "Gaslight" on the Eastside in Greenwich village. Bob Dylan's and later Patty Smith's old stopping ground. John is in Durham, NC working as a research scientist at a Bio Engineering firm. Neither is married yet, so no grandbabies. That's fine by us. We are enjoying ourselves and have that stage to look forward to down the road. I often think back on all the wonderful times and sweet memories I have of my time in Grinnell. They are among the most cherished in my life. I am so grateful for all your kindness and friendship in the short time I lived there. I hope all you girls that were part of the crazy adventures we had our junior year riding around in Sandy's car have had a wonderful...(read more) |
