About	I grew up just a few blocks away from Neil and his family. He was the third child in a family of four kids. Neil was a bit of a "bad boy" in grade school, with an air of James Dean. I always had a secret crush on Neil. He was so cool and had the most pensive blue eyes. One day, when I was in fourth grade, a nasty bully punched me in the chest. Neil pushed her down. Back in those days, we all wore dresses. She hit hard, on her rump, and her legs flew into the air. He made some snide comment that humiliated her. She never messed with me again. From that day on, Neil became my hero. I never forgot his kindness. Years later, he and I met up. I no longer felt like an ugly duckling and we dated for awhile, but I was seeing someone else and so our friendship ended. Sadly, Neil killed himself just six days before his 21st birthday. I've never forgotten him and often think of how special he made me feel that day that he stood up for me. I hope and pray that every bully meets his Neil Michealson and is put to shame.
