Graduation Year Class of 1972
Date of Passing May 18, 2010
About He was born in Philadelphia to Ralph Hochendoner and Gunilla “Karin” Ljuggren. At the age of 5, he moved to Grants Pass, where he graduated from high school. He attended Oregon State University for 31/2 years, majoring in engineering. He transferred to the University of Oregon (remaining a Beaver at heart), earning a degree in marketing.

Karl married Melinda Douglas on July 16, 1977, in Salem.

He had quite a reputation for being a terrific, caring salesman. He worked at Sears for over 15 years as a sales associate in the lawn and garden department, and worked briefly for Parrotts Home Furnishings. In 2007 he began working for the amazingly wonderful Don and Vivian Kropf at Linn Benton Tractor, until illness forced him to quit.

Karl enjoyed boating, fishing and grilling anything that would fit on his barbecue. His love for his children, granddaughters and many nieces and nephews knew no bounds. His large family was the true joy of his life.

Karl is survived by his wife, Melinda Douglas Hochendoner of Albany; son Christopher of Salem; daughter Wendy of Winthrop, Maine; mother Karin Hochendoner of Cottage Grove; brothers Ralph of Salmon River, Wash., and Eric of Idaho; sisters Karin Robertson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Janice Konow of Creswell, Christine Barth of Cottage Grove, Laura Wolfe of Dallas, Geraldine Morod of Dallas, Rita Broadbent of Salt Lake City, and Paula Hochendoner of Cottage Grove; and grandchildren Maddy and Sophie Dostie of Winthrop, Maine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph.

Karl’s irreverent sense of humor and love of life as well as his generosity will be sadly missed.

A service will be at noon Saturday at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, 34275 Riverside Drive S.W., Albany. Please join the family in celebrating Karl’s life by wearing your OSU garb and showing you Beaver pride.
