About Me I ended my enlistment in the Air Force in 1967 and joined the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department, Albuquerque N.M. in 1968. In 1972 I was transferred to the ATSP,( Alcohol Traffic Safety Program), a federal funded program to combat DWI. During that year my partner and I made 635 DWI arrest with 634 convections. In 1975 I was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the east district ( Mountains). I went to Northwestern University and received both the Police Instructor and advanced accident investigation. I then went to the FBI SWAT school and IPTM North Florida traffic reconstruction. I was promoted to lieutenant and placed in charge of the east substation. I retired as a Captain on 01/01/88. After retirement I worked for (4 )Attorneys performing accident reconstruction for a couple of years in Albuquerque, N.M.I wanted to get back into law enforcement so I relocated to Greenville Al. I was hired in April, 1992 by the Greenville Police Department and have been with them ever since.I bought a home that was built in 1860 and our home was aired on HGTV "IF WALLS COULD TALK" because I found silver coins in the ceiling during renovation. The coins date back to 1880.The house has approximately 3800 sq. ft. of heated space.----- I am telling my story and what happened to me by the insurance company and it might help some of you. Also some law makers that read this story will take DUI or DWI seariously. April 7, 1982 I left the house that morning and told my family good by and kissed my wife and went to work. I had a class that day, I don't remember what class at this time. At 1245 the Chief Deputy and the Captain came into the class and told me to come outside. Outside they told me that my family had been in an accident on I-40 and My wife was dead and my 17 year old son and 4 year old daughter had been taken to the hospital. I wanted to go to the scene but they told me your wife is dead and your kids need you. At the hospital I found my son was on the 1st floor and my daughter was on the 5th floor. My son had massive brain damage and died after 9 hours and my daughter survived. The investigation was performed by the Albuquerque Police Department and they did a fantastic job. My family was west bound on I-40 and the other driver was west bound; came up behind them and swerved to the left and struck the rear of our vehicle; rotating it sideways and rolling my vehicle 3 times. My wife was ejected and was killed instantly and my son and daughter was also ejected. My daughter was picked up from the drainage canal, that had water in it by a New Mexico State Police Officer; the name that I did not get, and he carried her to safety. The driver of the other vehicle BAC was .24. The driver turned out to be a classmate of my sons. He had went home for lunch and drank and was trying to get back to school before the tarty bell. He was found guilty and served 360 days pre death in the county jail. So you see I have been on both sides of the fence, ie. putting them in jail and then being a victim also. I had 30-30 stacked to 60 on accidental death and the dd 25-25 stacked to 50 on accidental death. My inurance agent would not talk to me until I had settled with the other drivers insurance then my insurance came in and said we don't owe you $60,000, we owe you $10,000, sue us, so I did and I lost, a Federal Judge ruled against me and said that I was doubled dipping even though I had two dead. Some Insurance company--- they sure stand behind you- WAY BEHIND YOU !!!! ( STATE FARM INSURANCE COMPANY ) a company to stay away from if you are smart.!!!!! In 1992 I joined the Greenville Police Dept. I am now a F...(read more)
