What is Valerie Bertinelli known for?

Valerie Anne Bertinelli, an American actress, television personality, cook, and author, was born on April 23, 1960, in Wilmington, Delaware. Due to her father's career as a General Motors executive, her family frequently moved, living in various locations until they finally settled in Los Angeles, California. Here, Bertinelli studied acting at the Tami Lynn School of Artists and attended Granada Hills Charter High School.

Bertinelli kicked off her career as an adolescent, capturing public attention with her role as Barbara Cooper Royer on the sitcom One Day at a Time (1975–1984), for which she won two Golden Globe Awards. As she transitioned into adult stardom, she became famous for her role as Gloria on the religious drama series Touched by an Angel (2001–2003) and Melanie Moretti on the sitcom Hot in Cleveland (2010–2015), the latter earning her a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination. In recognition of her contributions, Bertinelli was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012.

Besides her illustrious acting career, Bertinelli made her mark in the cooking realm. She hosted several programs for the Food Network, among them 'Valerie's Home Cooking' (2015–2023) and 'Kids Baking Championship' (2015–present). She was awarded two Daytime Emmy Awards out of six nominations for 'Valerie's Home Cooking'.
