Laine Rittgers

Class of 1979

spearheaded and a leader on the Gladbrook Football Team from 1976 to 1978
was a starting outside linebacker as a soph and was the 2nd leading tackler
on the team. Was a pivital player on a team that didnt win many games during
the late 70s in Gladbrook. Switched to defensive tackle the last 2 years and
in 1 game recorded 5 quarterback sacks. Im sure is a school record to this day.
Played on the defensive line against players that weighed 60-80 lbs more than
Laine weighed. 175 lbs He worked hard all time even in practice and had a lot
lot of enthusiasm and wanted to win and never gave up. Laine was strong and a
smart player. Was a 3 time letterwinner in football. Laine also wrestled in the 167lb
class and finished 14-8 as a Jr and 2nd place in conference and 18-8 as a Sr and
placed 2nd in sectionals and 3rd in districts. Played baseball and was in track. Laine
didnt care about getting recognition he just wanted to win and be the best he could
be. He loved to compete!!!!!!
