Bill Welcher
Class of 1971
National Guard, 20+ Years
Enlisted 1980; basic training at Ft. Knox, KY. Completed training as an Armored Recon Scout. Promoted to sergeant in 1982. Went to Officer Candidate School and was commissioned 1983 as an Armor officer. Served as a tank company officer; commanded to different tank companies; and a tank battalion. Transferred to Military Police and commanded a CID Detachment. Deployed to Germany in 1993, 1994, 1995, 2002. Deployed to Bosnia 2004 and 2005 as a NATO advisor. Deployed to Iraq 2006 and 2007 as an advisor to the Iraqi National Police. Continued on active duty in the United States from 2008-2012 as a Project officer and as a director of emergency services. Retired in 2012.
