About Me I got married in 1967 to my pen-pal, who was in the British Army at the time. We lived with his parents for six months, in Alnwick, Northumberland, which houses Alnwick Castle, the home of the Duke of Northumberland, and where some of the scenes from the Harry Potter movies were shot. It is a beautiful market town. We then moved to Newcastle upon Tyne when Cyril was discharged (on medical grounds) later that year. We now live in Hazlerigg, a village on the outskirts of the City, and have since 1972. Our sons, having dual nationality, joined the US Navy, Michael (born 1973) joining surface vessels, and Daniel (born 1976) becoming a submariner. They were both stationed at Pearl Harbour, so we got the chance of going out to Hawaii about six times. What a beautiful place that is - we'd love to move out there, but I got ill in 1996, and am now disabled, and rely on the hospitals around here, and the fantastic consultants who look after me, so that is a no-go, unfortunately. The boys and their families live in the States now, Michael working for the VA in Seattle, and Daniel studying to become a Physio Therapist in Pennsylvania. Both married American girls (of course!) although Michael first married an Australian, and the only good thing to come out of that was our lovely granddaughter Imogenne, who was born in 2000 on the 11th July, my birthday (not the 2000 bit, unfortunately!)! His second marriage to Zera is terrific, and he has two stepsons, Mikey who was born in 1990 and Colton who was born in 2000. Daniel is now divorced as well but is seeing a wonderful lady by name of Dana who has two daughters aged 8 and 10 as of 2018. He has a son, Jordan, who was born in 2001. When Daniel came out of the Navy, they came back to England and set up their own franchise of “Curves” (female only gym) and did very well. They were here for about eight or nine years, and then Daniel decided he wanted a change in career. He could have studied over here, of course, but by going to the States, his education was paid for by the Navy, so it was really a no brainer! He now lives in Whitehall, PA. Cyril and I went to Hawaii in 2017 for our 50th Wedding Anniversary, with Jordan and Daniel coming out and meeting us out there. We were happily surprised by one of our dearest friends and her young son travelling out from Japan to meet with us. Her husband was in the Navy with Daniel and was one of his “pups” on the submarine. We then all went to the old homestead in Wantagh where my youngest brother Ken still lives, meeting up with Michael who flew in from Seattle. It was the first time the boys had been together in 13 years, and we had a great time. Unfortunately, after we got home, my body decided to go downhill, and I wound up in hospital for three months with Sepsis! I tend to go overboard when something happens to me. In February of last year, I wound up with pneumonia and was back in hospital for a week and a bit. Good grief!! It is hard having everyone so far away, but Cyril has a sister and brother-in-law living just five minutes away, and cousins throughout Northumberland and Durham counties, and we are very happy over here. Both of us are now retired: Cyril enjoys working in his garden, and I enjoy being in it and reading from my Kindle. He is Secretary to Alnwick Town AFC (His Grace, the Duke of Northumberland, is their President), and I am secretary to the Secretary! So we manage to keep ourselves busy. We also have two cats - Rosie who is 16, and Macavity who is almost one. I seem to have gone on quite a bit, but that is more or less the story of my life since High School. Hope...(read more)
