About	Robert A. Allen, a former Garden City athletic director, died Jan. 26 at his Wildwood, Fla., home after a brief illness. He was 68. Born in Hartford, Conn., he graduated from Weaver High School there in 1946. After a short stint as an Army paratrooper, Mr. Allen attended Springfield College in Connecticut, from 1948 until graduation in 1952. He worked on a master's degree at the University of Hartford, where he met his future wife, Adele Fallot. They wed in 1954. Mr. Allen's first teaching job was at his alma mater, Weaver High School. After teaching physical education there for six months, he then taught high school in Gardner, Mass., from 1955 to 1959. After moving to New York in 1959, he taught physical education and coached football at Valley Stream South High School until 1961. Mr. Allen moved to Westbury that year and taught in what was then Garden City Junior High School, now Garden City Middle School. He taught physical education, served as director of athletics and coached football, lacrosse and wrestling, notching a career winning percentage of 78. In 1980, he joined Garden City High School as district athletic director and a physical education teacher. In 1983, he became the district director of physical education and athletics. Mr. Allen retired in 1990 and moved with his wife to Florida. In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Mark of Maine, Robert of New Orleans, Stephen of Sunrise, Fla., and Gregory of Carle Place; a daughter, Lynn Stein of Massachusetts. The funeral was held Jan. 30. The family requests memorial donations to The Men's Association, Robert A. Allen Memorial Award Fund, 99 Clinch Ave., Garden City, N.Y. 11530-2345.
