About | CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Edward Wojnar, 79, of Cape Coral died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001 at his home. He was the husband of Isabelle Wojnar; they were married 53 years. Born Feb. 24, 1921 in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Karol and Aniela (Borczyk) Wojnar. He joined the Army in 1942 and served honorably for four years during World War II. Following his discharge from active duty he served with the Army Reserve for 28 years and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. Before his retirement in 1984 he taught at Garden City High School in Long Island, N.Y. for 22 years, following 16 years as a teacher in New Bedford. While living in New Bedford he served as president of the New Bedford Teachers Association. He moved to Cape Coral in 1984. He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and past President of the Cape Coral Retired Officers Association. He held memberships with the Eagles Aerie 3957, Elks Lodge 2656, Moose Lodge 2199, MOWW, and the Polish American World War Veterans Assoc. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 90, National Retired Officers Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8463. Survivors include his widow; three sons, Edward K. Wojnar and Mark J. Wojnar, both of New Bedford and Peter Wojnar and his wife, Dr. Laurie Jacobs Wojnar, of Tarrytown, N.Y.; a daughter, Andrea Wojnar-Diagne and her husband, Moustapha, of Nairobi, Kenya; a daughter-in-law, Maria Wojnar of Rockville Centre, Long Island; and eight grandchildren, David, Nicholas, Katrina, Elizabeth, Julia, Benjamin, Ahmed, and Basia-Marie. He was the father of the late Steven Wojnar, who died in 1998. His Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, Cape Coral. Entombment and military honors will immediately follow at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Cemetery. (Source: South Coast Today) |
