About	Mr. Laurence John Straton, 26, died on February 28, 1989 at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA., after a three month battle with an aggressive form of cancer known as malignant melanoma of the central nervous system. Mr. Straton was a 1980 graduate of Garden City High School. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a Senior Patrol Leader of Troup 56. He was a Life Guard and Swimming Instructor at the Garden City Pool. In 1984 Mr. Straton graduated from the University of Rochester, in Rochester, NY with a BS in Engineering and Applied Science, with a concentration in Bio-Medical Engineering. He moved to Philadelphia, PA to work as a Project Engineer evaluating medical equipment for the firm E.C.R.I. in Plymouth Meeting, PA. He was an avid cyclist and enjoyed scuba diving, sailing, skiing, and other sports. He was the son of John D and Maries Louse Straton of Garden City and the brother of Joseph and Paul. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Anne's Church. Burial was at St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, NY. A scholarship was set up in his name at Garden City High School.
