About | WILLIAMSBURG — Laurie Fern Searls Waterman of Williamsburg died on Wednesday, August 28, 2002. She was 42. Born in Tucson, Arizona, on January 19, 1960, Laurie grew up in California and Northern Virginia. She graduated Garfield High School in Woodbridge, Virginia, as valedictorian in 1978. After attending the College of William and Mary, she graduated Catholic University as valedictorian, with a bachelor of science in nursing, in 1982. She graduated Louisiana State University as valedictorian, with a naster of science in nursing, in 1986. Laurie worked in various nursing capacities at the Children's Hospitals in Washington, D.C.; New Orleans, Louisiana; and Norfolk, Virginia. She then taught at the Riverside School of Professional Nursing for approximately 10 years. After retiring, she volunteered for a number of educational, athletic and social organizations. Laurie endeared herself to many. Laurie was predeceased by her stepfather, Richard V. Nankivell. She is survived by her children, Katharine T. Waterman, Avery T. Waterman III, Christian T. Waterman and Elizabeth T. Waterman; her husband, Avery T. Waterman Jr.; and her mother, Pauline L. Nankivell; all of Williamsburg. She also is survived by her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Jay L. Searls, and her brother, Randall A. Searls; all of Wilmington, North Carolina. The family received visitors at Bucktrout of Williamsburg yesterday evening. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2002, at St. Bede's Church, with Monsignor William H. Carr officiating. A processional to Peninsula Memorial Park for a graveside service will follow immediately. Friends are invited to a reception at the Dunn residence at 161 John Browning in Kingsmill thereafter. Memorial donations may be made to Walsingham Academy, 1100 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185, and Hampton Roads Academy, 739 Academy Lane, Newport News, VA 23602. Laurie will be missed. |
