| About Me | I've travelled quite a bit! I lived in Okinawa, Japan for four years working as a civilian for the US Navy the last two years over there, then went on to work in Iraq as a DOD contractor. Every night, while on my base (Al Asad), I fell asleep to the sound of the helicoptors coming in and taking off. Despite the heat (120+ in the summer), the winters are COLD in the desert! My first 4 months on my base were spent in a tent during the winter. Not fun! But, I stayed 15 months over there. While on R&Rs, I went all over. Always wanting to see the pyramids, I travelled to Egypt, which is dirtier than Iraq! I've been to Kuwait, Dubai (my favorite!) Taiwan, Korea, Mexico, the Carribean, and probably a couple other places I've forgotten about. I currently live in Florida, but hope to return to a war zone again. Right now, I am recovering from a car accident, so the body armor I'd have to wear in Iraq would be far too stressful on my back right now. I am a proud aunt and my children are my two kitties I brought back from Okinawa. I was thrilled that my parents were able to care for them while I was in the "sandbox." I was a Subcontract Administrator for a division of Halliburton, working cradle to grave on multi-million dollor subcontracts for the military. I have been through the Baghdad Airport several times and stayed at a base in Baghdad every time I travelled or had to go to training. It's not at all what you see or hear on the news. We are doing great work over there, but the country has a long way to go before it can take care of itself. I have seen and done a lot and my advice is to always keep an open mind and keep learning! The Science and History channels are my favorite, if that gives you an idea of how I am now. I've skydived once from 10,000ft and would love to do that again. I'm not too afraid to try new things, but you will never see me on fear factor! I'd take more incoming from the bad guys before I'd ever eat a cave spider! And yes, I'm crazy enough to say that seeing tracer fire overhead is pretty cool! That's all for now. Send me an e-mail if you like. I'm not on the computer every day, but I'd love to hea...(read more) |
