About Duane Victor Keilstrup

With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Duane Victor Keilstrup, a devoted husband, cherished father, beloved grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, scholar, and faithful servant of God. Duane passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, in Arlington, Texas, just days shy of his 90th birthday. He leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, compassion, and enduring faith that will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Born on August 21, 1935, in Fremont, Nebraska, Duane was the treasured son of the late Victor Juul Martinsen Keilstrup and Alma May Clark Keilstrup. A lifelong learner with a deep reverence for language and the written word, he earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska, setting the foundation for a distinguished academic and professional career.

For 31 years, Duane shared his passion for education at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he was admired for his intellect, humility, and commitment to students. Upon retirement, he was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus, a testament to his impact on generations of scholars and colleagues. Beyond academia, Duane was a published author, a beloved radio DJ, and a thoughtful communicator who used his voice and pen to uplift, educate, and inspire.

At the heart of Duane’s life was his faith. A faithful servant of God, he lived his beliefs through service, kindness, and unwavering moral clarity. He was a source of strength, wisdom, and calm to all who were fortunate to know him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Glenda Faye Hartsell Keilstrup, his steadfast partner in life and faith. Duane was the loving father of Vicki (Barry) Stephan, Rance Keilstrup, and Kristin (David) Kimmell, and the proud grandfather of James Newsom, Missy Keilstrup, and Matthew Kimmell. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Samantha, Chance, and Kimber Newsom, Aaron Keilstrup, and Thomas Grisham. He is also remembered fondly by his nieces, Kim Keilstrup and Kourtney Keilstrup.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard Keilstrup, with whom he shared a bond of love and brotherhood.

To those who knew him, Duane was more than his accolades—he was a gentle presence, a wise mentor, and a loving family man. His life was a beautiful testament to the enduring power of faith and love.

A memorial service will be held in Arlington, Texas, to celebrate Duane’s extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in his memory to a faith-based charity of your choice.
