HARWICH - Lynda (Erickson) Burchfield. Passed away on September 14, 2020 at her Harwich home, at age 73. Of Harwich, formerly of Milton and Wellesley. Beloved mother Benjamin E. (Erick) Burchfield of Braintree, Christian W. Burchfield of Harwich and Nicholas J. Burchfield and his wife, Kate E., of Encinitas, Ca. Joyful grandmother of Nolan J., 10, and Reese D. Burchfield, 6. Lynda was an inspired fifth grade teacher for 25 years at the Tenacre Country Day School in Wellesley. She also taught fifth grade in the Chatham public school system. Born in Sioux City, Iowa and raised in Fremont, Nebraska, Lynda was the daughter of the late Lawrence B. Erickson, once the sheriff of Dodge County, Nebraska, and Gail (Crombie) Erickson. She was a graduate of Fremont High School and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., where she resided while her former husband Stanley G. Burchfield served in the US Navy. An active member of the Cape Cod community, Lynda volunteered at the Family Food Pantry of Cape Cod and was possibly the most frequent patron of the Chase Library in West Dennis. She was a member of the Brewster Baptist Church in Brewster. Lynda waged a valiant, decade-long battle with breast cancer, and her sons wish to thank the caregivers at Dana Farber Cancer Center for her treatment. She loved her Cape Cod home and her life was testament to strength and honor under adversity, love under all circumstances and devotion to her family and friends. Donations can be made in her name to the Family Food Pantry of Cape Cod and/or to the Dana Farber Cancer Center, of Boston.
