James Halyard "Jim" Hawkins
January 4, 1957 - January 28, 2024

James Halyard "Jim" Hawkins, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home on January 28, 2024. A visitation at 11:00am with a memorial service to follow at 12:00pm will be held on Saturday, February 17, at Oxford Nazarene Church.

Jim was born on January 4, 1957, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Betty Jane Farmer Hawkins and James Henry Hawkins. He was preceded in death by his father, and his sister, Sherrill Sommer.

He was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and a team member of the Rebels football team, proudly wearing No. 58 and nicknamed "Hawk." Jim loved his Rebels and rarely missed a sporting event. He also loved playing golf with his buddies.
Most important to Jim were his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends. He never missed their sports, dance recitals, Baptisms, school events, graduations, birthday parties. "Papa" was always there cheering them on.

Diagnosed with terminal cancer six years ago, he always remained optimistic, continuing his normal life, traveling, working, golfing, attending family seasonal events.

He is survived by his loving wife, Julie, daughters Courtney Hawkins, Tupelo, Ms. Erin (Allen) Sanders, Woodstock, Ga., Katie Crabtree, Oxford, Ms., Ann (Tate) Parrish, Spring, Tx., sisters Deborah Hawkins Thompson, Jefferson City, Tn., Ramona Hawkins Wagner, Chattanooga, Tn, eight grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford staff is honored to serve the family as they walk through this challenging season of life.
